Sometimes “I’ll be there”
is just hitting play
on the same show
at the same time,
states apart.
After the kids are in bed,
while the toys are still strewn about
and there is so much work to be done
Sometimes sitting with your feelings
Is texting “CARL is the worst”
And “OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING”
back and forth
because this is what gets you to bedtime,
to tomorrow morning,
to tomorrow afternoon
to “ok, hit play…NOW” again
And eventually the series ends
and the bad thing
has gotten a little less bad
and you have survived.
And, for today, the only casualties are the
made up people on the made up show.
